YWCA Women of Achievement Luncheon

ywca early logo Returning to Dixon, IL, The YWCA Women of Achievement Luncheon, “Here’s to Good Women:   May We Know Them, May We Be Them, May We Raise Them,” will be held on Thursday April 6, 2017.  This event will start with registration beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Luncheon from noon until 1:30 p.m,. at the Elks Club, located at 1279 Franklin Grove Road, Dixon.

The YWCA is now accepting registrations and award nominations for the annual event, which showcases the achievements of outstanding women throughout the Sauk Valley area.

Although volunteers are mailing invitations, everyone in the community is invited. This includes companies, organizations, and individuals, both women and men. The YWCA is accepting reservations by mail at 412 First Avenue, Sterling, IL, 61081, or by phone at 815-625-0333. Seating is limited, so early reservations are encouraged.  Groups reserving a table of eight are listed as table sponsors in the event program.

The YWCA is also seeking nominations for its annual awards presented to Sauk Valley area women. The women who were honored in 2016 are:

  • Louise Bittorf Sullivan Award for Inspirational Woman: Deb Vos with Northern Illinois Home Medical Supply
  • Pearl Woods Award for Business and Industry: Deborah Combs with Frantz Manufacturing.
  • Crete Dillon Bowman Award for Community Leadership: Jessica Garza, Detective with Dixon Police Department.
  • Jane Reid Keefer Award for Professions and Education: Terri Lawrence with Tri-County Opportunities Council.
  • L.L. Ely Award for Secretarial Excellence: Carol Lubbs, now retired secretary from East Coloma School.
  • Young Woman of Tomorrow: This award recognizes outstanding young women ages 15-22, and last year’s recipient was Deisy Diaz of Sauk Valley Community College.
  • Spirit of Achievement Award: This posthumous award honored the memories of Jen Banks and Anita Elgin.

The fee for the YWCA Women’s Women of Achievement Luncheon is $35 per person.  In addition to the luncheon and awards presentations, the program includes a gift basket raffle, 50/50 drawing, and, new this year, a Dessert Dash (similar to a dessert auction.)  Tickets for the drawings can be purchased at the event via credit/debit cards or cash.

All proceeds from the luncheon support YWCA’s programs that impact thousands of lives across Lee and Whiteside Counties each year.  YWCA services include domestic violence and sexual assault assistance, prevention of bullying and abuse, girls’ programs, career services, cultural diversity work, immigrant outreach and more.  The YWCA also receives support from the United Ways of Whiteside and Lee Counties.
