Editor’s note:  Gary M. Farral submitted a portion of this material, supplemented from Quad-City Times correspondent Jennifer DeWitt.

WWIIMonumentHonor Flight of the Quad-Cities Director Steve Garrington, a retired Army Lieutenant Colonel, stated there are more than 600 veterans waiting to participate in a free, one-day Honor Flight to Washington, D. C.  It could take three or four years before all could be transported.  “Somebody who just signed up, it might be two or three years before they go.  We still want them to sign up now.  It’s first come, first served.”

Veterans from World War II and the Korean Conflict would be given priority, because they are older, Garrington said.  WWII veterans and those terminally ill, of any age, move to the front of the line, he added, and most current registrants are Vietnam veterans.

Flights are scheduled for Thursday, May 4; Thursday, June 8; Monday, August 31; Wednesday, November 1, 2017.

The Guardian list is reopened for applications.

To sign up, obtain applications for veterans or volunteer Guardians at http://honorflightqc.org/.

You may call Gary Farral at 309-659-2628 and leave a message as to where to send the application, or e-mail to GFar.1947@yahoo.com.

Farral noted, “For the Whiteside County Honor Flight Committee, I shall be sending an announcement for a meeting in April.  Thank you for your service, lady and gentleman veterans.”
