Michael Lee Zuidema (1963 – 2016)

Michael Lee Zuidema, 53, of the Iowa Masonic Health Facility in Bettendorf, IA, formerly of Fulton, IL, died Friday, December 23, 2016, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf.

Mike was born November 23, 1963, in Clinton, IA, to David L. and Judith A. (Rasmussen) Zuidema. He was educated in the Fulton grade schools and graduated from Fulton High School in 1981. Mike had been employed by Jewel-Osco Grocery Stores for 33 years. He was an avid golfer and bowler and participated in various tournaments across the Country.  Mike was a die-hard Chicago Bears and Cubs fan, and it was a huge joy for him to finally get to see the Cubs win the World Series.

Survivors include his mother, Judith Locey of Cordova, IL;  one grandmother, Irene Dyke of Morrison,IL; one sister, Jennifer (James) Hatfield of Hampton, IL; three brothers, Kevin Zuidema of Clinton, Edward Zuidema of Fulton, and Curtis (Jennifer) Locey of Bettendorf; one step-mother, Joan Zuidema of Morrison; three step-sisters, Dory Locey of Clinton, Kay Hoogerwerf and Tracy Ziegenhorn, both of Peoria, IL; three step-brothers, Monte Locey of Clinton, Dan (Kelli) Stanton of South Padre Island, TX, and Steve (Moira) Stanton of Cibalo, TX; several aunts and uncles; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, David L. Zuidema; his step-father, Cecil Locey; a grandfather, Elmer Zuidema.

Cremation rites have been acorded.

Memorial Service:  1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

OFFICIATING:  Ken Renkes

Memorial Visitation:  11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 7, 2017, until the time of the service, at the Fulton Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home

INTERMENT:  Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, IL

A memorial to the JDRF, Junior Diabetes Research Foundation, has been established.
