marvin scottMarvin K. “Pete” Scott, 86, of Prophetstown, IL, died Thursday, October 20, 2016, at CGH Medical Center, Sterling, IL.

Pete was born May 14, 1930, in Moline, IL, to Aubrey J. and C. Ethel (Spencer) Scott. He was a graduate of Prophetstown High School in Prophetstown. He married Coralie A. “Cork” Weburg on June 22, 1962, in Prophetstown. She died March 30, 2009. Pete was first employed by his father at Scott’s Grocery in Prophetstown. He later purchased and moved the store to Lafayette Street and operated it until selling the business in 1983. Following that, he worked as a financial consultant for Waddell and Reed in Sterling, IL, and as a bookkeeper for Chet Sutton Construction, the City of Prophetstown, and the Village of Lyndon, IL, for several years. Pete was a member, Past President, and Treasurer for the Prophetstown Lions Club; Past President and Treasurer for the Prophetstown-Lyndon Fire Protection District; member of Prophet Hills Country Club. He served as Deacon and Treasurer of First Congregational United Church of Christ in Prophetstown, Mayor of Prophetstown from 1978 to 1989, and Director of Prophetstown Main Street. Pete was Grand Marshall of the 2015 Prophetstown Lighted Christmas Parade. He was member, President, and Treasurer of Northwestern Illinois Model Railroad Club in Chadwick, IL, and was known as the “scenery guy.” He was also a 50-year member of Prophetstown Lodge #293 AF & AM.

Survivors include two daughters, Beth (Wesley) Grau of Gurnee, IL, and Joanne (Tom) Baird of South Elgin, IL; one son, David Scott of Morrison, IL; seven grandchildren, Jessica (Alan) Schrank, Jacqueline Grau, Jaci Grau, Zachary Baird, Brandon Scott, Noah Scott, and Leah Scott; one sister, Nancy Mastergeorge of Seal Beach, CA.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Cork; two brothers, Dale and Donald B. Scott.   

FUNERAL SERVICE:  10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 26, 2016, at First Congregational United Church of Christ, Prophetstown, IL

OFFICIATING:  Rev. Andy Ploenzke, Pastor, First Congregational United Church of Christ

VISITATION:  4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at Bosma-Gibson Funeral Home, 320 Lafayette Street, Prophetstown, IL

Cremation rites will be accorded.
