Doris J. Green, 86, of Thomson, IL, died Friday, October 7, 2016, at her home.
Doris was born April 13, 1930, in Sterling, IL, to John H. and Laura L. (Drewes) Cordes. She was educated in the South Hume School and graduated from Tampico High School in 1948. She attended Valparaiso University for two years. She then was employed at Eclipse Lawn Mower Company in Prophetstown, IL, as a secretary. Doris married Paul J. “Jim” Green on February 7, 1953, in Morrison, IL. They farmed near Thomson for over 50 years, until he died on December 31, 2003. Doris was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Morrison and served as a Sunday School teacher. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for several years and was Thomson PTA President and Carroll County PTA President. Doris was the recipient of the Illinois PTA Honorary Life Membership Award. Doris was an Avon representative for over 44 years. She wrote her autobiography when she was 81 years old and was very interested in family history. A memorial has been established by the family.
Survivors include one daughter, Paula Green of Freeport, IL; two sons, Kevin (Karla) Green of Thomson and Marvin (Cathy) Green of Mt. Carroll, IL; six grandchildren, Heather (Grant) Askew, Britney (Michael) Long, Chelsey (Ryan) Tracey, Jared (Kate) Green, Chris (Kari) Green, and Wesley Green; ten great-grandchildren, Sydney and Zion Long, Emmy Askew, Dawsyn, Coen, and Crosby Tracey, John Green, Ashton St. Ores, Tegyn and Brantley Green; one sister, Barbara Peterson of Sterling, IL; a sister-in-law, Grace Green of Morrison.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Green; one grandson, Joshua Paul Green; a brother-in-law, Laverne “Stan” Peterson.
FUNERAL SERVICE: 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, Morrison, IL
CO-OFFICIATING: Rev. Mark Winkelman, Senior Pastor, and Rev. Mike Winkelman, Associate Pastor
VISITATION: 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at the Morrison Chapel of the Bosma-Renkes Funeral Home
INTERMENT: Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, IL
