The last day of the 2016 Morrison Farmers Market was Saturday, September 24. It is always hard to believe 19 weeks can go by so fast. It has been a wonderful season, celebrating local food, artisan goods, live music, and our community!
Thank you to all of our amazing customers who come rain or shine and to all of our dedicated vendors that make up our market family.
Thanks to all of our community partners who support our mission, including Kunes Country Auto Group of Morrison, Farmers National Bank, Whiteside County, John Dickey, Stanley and Teriann Kurasz, Whiteside County Master Gardeners, and Don Mulnix.
Morrison Farmers’ Market originated in 2006, from a visioning and planning program for economic development that was conducted by the Morrison Chamber of Commerce and Morrison Area Development Corporation. The objective of Morrison Farmers’ Market is to provide local residents, as well as its visitors, with fresh, locally-grown foods and craft products, while also supporting rural and urban farmers and artisans. The market, we have learned, is so much more.
From its initial inception, when committee members worked to create and implement market rules and guidelines, to the weekly set-up and tear-down, Morrison Farmers’ Market has been successful, thanks to active involvement of its volunteers. Critical are volunteers who are passionate about agriculture and the promotion of the local community.
Does this sound like you? The market is actively seeking a market manager(s) for next year’s market. Market managers are responsible for assigning slots for vendors, collecting fees, arranging advertising and promotion, ensuring vendors are compliant with Health Department licenses and permits, enforcing rules, and managing the usual business of the market.
