Daryl John Grennan (1971 – 2016)

daryl grennanDaryl John Grennan, age 45 of Byron, IL, passed away on Tuesday, September 13, 2016. in Byron.

He was born on April 20, 1971, in Sterling, IL, to Eugene and Margaret (Naughton) Grennan and was the sixth of ten children.

Daryl attended and wrestled for Newman Central Catholic High School in Sterling and was in the graduating class of 1989.  After high school, >Daryl completed his welding apprenticeship and married Judy Rinehart on February 1, 1997, in Rock Falls, IL.

Daryl was a member of St. Mary’s Parish and the Knights of Columbus in Byron.  He enjoyed coaching and being a mentor for the young wrestlers of the Xtreme Wrestling Club.  He was the founder, President, and Crew Chief of Grennan Racing.  Daryl was employed at Nelson Carlson Mechanical Contractors in Rockford, IL.  He was a welding instructor for his Local 23 Plumbers and Pipe-fitters Association.

Daryl is survived by his spouse, Judy; his sons Caleb and Carson; his parents Eugene and Peggy Grennan of Rock Falls; eight siblings, Shawn (Ann) Grennan, of Rock Falls, Carla (Steve) Hilbert of Algonquin, IL, Mike (Gina) Grennan of Rock Falls, Jen (Ryan) Oetting of Morrison, IL, Amy Norton of San Diego, CA, Thomas (Heather) Grennan of Rock Falls, Sarah (Jason) Kamens of Gilbert, AZ, Meg (Scott) Schultz of Austin, MN; father-in-law, David Rinehart of Columbus, NE; mother-in-law, Pam Gronewoller of Lincoln, NE; sisters-in-law, Sheri Rinehart of Geneva, NE, Katie (Derek) Gassmann of Columbus; brother-in-law, David Rinehart of York, NE; 29 nieces and nephews.

Daryl was preceded in death by his infant son, Brenden Eugene Grennan, and brother, Paul Grennan, in infancy.

A visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, September 16, 2016, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at the McDonald Funeral Home, 1002 12th Avenue, Rock Falls, IL.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be on Saturday, September 17, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Rock Falls, IL.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Harmon, IL.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to the Byron Wrestling Association or Byron Jr. Dragsters.
