Anna “Betty” Elizabeth Allen, 86, of Cordova, IL, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, September 11, 2016, at her home.
Betty Elizabeth Allen was born December 11, 1929, in Rock Island, IL, the daughter of James Henry and Mayme Almedia (Newman) Crosby. She graduated from Cordova High School in 1948. She married Ronald Devere Allen on August 19, 1949, at the Methodist parsonage in Port Byron, IL. He preceded her in death in 1986. After graduating she worked at Sears as a Telephone Operator and later in life at the Cordova Library, retiring after 15 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Cordova for over 50 years. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing, reading, and her many hummingbirds.
Betty is survived by her four sons and two daughters, David (Kim) Allen, Ottawa, IL, Anna (David) Day, Lanark, IL, Becky (Al) Schmidt, Morrison, IL, Jon (Linda) Allen, Cordova, Ted (Theresa) Allen, Port Byron, Todd (Laura) Allen, Moline, IL; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two on the way.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and three sisters.
Services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2016, at Gibson-Bode Funeral Home, Port Byron, IL.
Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to noon, Friday, September 16, 2016.
Burial will be in the Cordova Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the family or First Baptist Church, Cordova, IL.
