The Morrison Fillies put four runs on the scoreboard in the first inning and held on. The young women defeated the Newman Lady Comets Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Morrison Sports Complex by the score of 5-3.
Brooke Stralow singled in Emma Melton and Lauren Vos before she was plated on a home run by Emma Sitzmore. The Fillies took on a 4-0 lead after one inning. The Fillies added the final run on a solo home run by Lauren Pannier in the sixth inning.
Newman broke the scoring column in the fifth inning, when Ferris led off with a triple and was driven home two outs later, with a single by centerfielder Hadden. Two more runs were added in the sixth inning, with two singles ahead of a Craft triple to close the score to 5-3. The Sterling, IL, girls couldn’t close the gap in the seventh, and the Fillies recorded the win.
