Good Afternoon,
As many of you know Morrison High School and the Morrison Community [#6] School District suffered a tragic and unexpected loss last Thursday[, April 14, 2016,] with the passing of Mr. Rod Scott. Mr. Scott taught in the Morrison School District for 26 years, touching the lives of thousands of students, parents, teachers, staff, and community members. In addition, Mr. Scott’s wife, Sue, was an elementary teacher in our district for over 20 years, finishing her career at Northside Elementary in 2014. The Scotts were well known among all staff members and the community, and the loss of Mr. Scott transcends the entire District.
After much discussion with the Regional Office of Education and the State Board of Education, the District has decided to cancel all classes for this Wednesday, April 20. We do this in order to allow our teachers, staff members, and students to attend funeral services for Mr. Scott and to pay their respects to his family. As a result of this decision, the last day of student attendance for this school year will be moved back to Wednesday, May 25.
The District apologizes for any inconveniences that the timing of this decision may cause and understands that this schedule change may impact more than just the addition of a school day at the end of the year.
Classes will resume as regularly scheduled on Thursday, April 21.
Unexpected loss is never easy, and, in this case, the loss has touched all corners of our District. The decision to cancel classes was not easy, but, in the end, the District feels this is the best decision for our staff and our students. The District thanks you for your understanding and compassion.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me at 815-772-2064. Again, thank you for your understanding.
Sincerely,
Scott Vance, Superintendent
