HouseGeneseeThe governing body of First Presbyterian Church, 100 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL, recently voted to dispose of a single-family home, situated just north of the church building, which was purchased in May 2015.  The church bought the house, at 308 N. Genesee Street, after it had stood vacant for several months following a foreclosure.

A committee made up of members of the church and community has met several times to discuss possible uses for the property.  Taking into consideration the church’s needs now and in the future, the committee has decided to offer the house for sale for $1 to a buyer(s) who is willing to move the building elsewhere.

“We talked about tying use of the home to some of our mission objectives or to meet needs in the community,” said Rev. Mike Selburg, minister of First Presbyterian Church.  “But, ultimately, we decided that the church is not in need of more building space. but rather more open land.”

The land, once cleared of the building, will be developed into a greenspace to be used by the church; Morrison Community Day Care Center, which rents space at First Presbyterian Church; the Morrison community.

The two-story house is approximately 2400 square feet.  It has three-to-four bedrooms and one-to-1.5 bathrooms.  Those interested in the property can call the church, at 815-772-3510 for more information.

If no buyer is found to purchase and move the house, fixtures and other usable materials from the home will be salvaged and sold before the building is demolished.  The committee hopes to have the land cleared by the end of summer 2016.
