The Morrison Fillies fought the cool weather on Saturday, April 9 to top the Rock Falls Lady Rockets 16-7.
The Fillies have struggled early in generating adequate offense and the Rockets forced their hand as they opened the first inning with a Madison Shaw 3-run homer and again in the second with a trio of singles accounted for a 4-0 lead going into third inning. The Fillies took advantge of four Rock Falls errors and closed the score to 4-3 after three innings. The gates flew open in the 4th inning for the Filllies as every Filly reached base at least once by the way of base on balls (2), hit by a pitch, errors (2), fielder’s choice, sacrifice bunt and hitting (Sarah Ostrander -2 singles, Emily Szabo-2B) and crossed the plate ten times to take command of the game. The Rockets retaliated with three runs in the fifth, but the hill was to steep for a comeback. The Fillies added single runs in the 6th on a double by Brooke Stralow and the 7th when Emma Melton singled following an Ostrander double to close out the 16-7 win for the Fillies.
