600+ Attend Fire Department Breakfast

On Saturday, May 19, 2024, Morrison Fire Department staff swapped out a half dozen large pieces of equipment, in order to fill their building space with tables and chairs, for prospective breakfast eaters.

To promote the annual fundraiser, Engine 1 served as a billboard at the corner of U. S. Highway 30 and Illinois Route 78. Brian Bartoz took this photograph.

Multi-generational groups and individuals prior to 10:00 a.m. filled the engine room with a constant low roar of conversation and comaraderie. Firefighter John Huizenga tallied the number of eaters as they filed toward the food tables. He recorded 600 as the Editor approached. Breakfast Chairman Emmit Shepard (second from left) concurred.

Funds raised will be used to purchase “extrication, ie. rescue, equipment and tools.”

Outside the north side of the station, hundreds of sausage patties were grilled in large batches, under the watch of Lt. Matt VanDrew, Seth Buckwalter, and !st Assistant Chief Brian Johnson (left-to-right.)
