2019B rrryScurryClinton Community College will host the 38th Annual B-rrry Scurry 4-Mile Run, on Saturday, February 2, 2019.  Runners and walkers agree the race day atmosphere is exciting.  The route is flat and fast with chip timing and instant results.  The post-race party is legendary.  These are all the necessary ingredients for “one of the best little races in the Midwest!”

Proceeds of the race benefit CCC students through B-rrry Scurry scholarships.  Registration is available at www.eicc.edu or stop in to CCC, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton, IA, to pick up a form.

The most fascinating aspect of the B-rrry Scurry is the weather.  February temperatures have ranged from 35 degrees below zero to 60 degrees above zero!  Everyone is encouraged to dress in layers to keep warm in the chilly temps.

The B-rrry Scurry begins at noon at the college, 1000 Lincoln Boulevard, Clinton.  No pets or strollers are allowed on the race course.  Packet Pickup is Friday, February 1, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 2, from 9:00 to 11:30 a.m.

Prize money is awarded to the male and/or female that sets a new B-rrry Scurry course record, on the out-and-back, flat-and-fast course.  Jessica Langford of Rockford, IL, holds the women’s record in a time of 23:21.  Bryan Glass of Geneseo, IL, holds the record of 20:15.

All B-rrry Scurry participants receive the official, originally-designed TECH race shirt, have their names listed in the Clinton Herald, are eligible for some great door prizes, free refreshments after the race, and entry into the post-race party.  It begins following the B-rrry Scurry Awards Ceremony at Legends Sports Bar, 2118 Harrison Drive, Clinton.  Legends will feature live music from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.

Special medallions bearing the image of B-rrry Bear are presented in 15 age divisions for both men and women, including the 80+ age category.  The “B-rrry Challenge” encourages area businesses and organizations to get involved while competing for the top award.

New for 2019 is the Mac & Cheese Bowl, hosted by the B-rrry Scurry Race Committee on Monday, February 4.  The community is invited to attend the Mac & Cheese Bowl Dinner at the CCC Auditorium; doors open at 4:30 p.m.  The dinner will feature a variety of Macaroni and Cheese offerings in addition to salad, bread, dessert, and drink.  The cost is $10 per adult and $5 for students; tickets will be sold at the door.

The CCC B-rrry Scurry is the first race in the Clinton area Mississippi River Challenge.  Participants of three Clinton races, the CCC B-rrry Scurry 4-Mile Run, the Pam Pray Memorial 4-Mile Run (April 7), and one of the three Clinton Half Marathon Races (September 8), will earn the 4th annual Mississippi River Challenge commemorative medal. There is no fee to participate, however only the runners and walkers who complete all three races will earn the medal.

“Area runners and walkers love to support local causes….Earning the Mississippi River Challenge medal gives them an added incentive, especially when the temps dip below freezing,” commented B-rrry Scurry Race Director Ann Eisenman.  “Wearing layers to keep warm helps make going for a winter run a fun way to exercise!”

The B-rrry Scurry race volunteers number more than 100. These dedicated folks are so appreciated for their commitment to the B-rrry Scurry, Clinton Community College, and the community.  Anyone interested in volunteering for the B-rrry Scurry is encouraged to contact Clinton Community College at 563-244-7001.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, February 2, for the 38th Annual CCC B-rrry Scurry.
