At the Monday, September 27, 2021, City of Morrison Council meeting, citizen comments about the City’s lack of regulations on the housing of chickens within the City limits, have moved the Morrison City Council to put the clarification on the agenda for Monday, October 11. Acknowledging that the livestock issue has entered into the Council’s discussions several times without any action, the Council agreed to make a decision on October 11.
An action item to remove two trees met opposition, due to the questionable determination if they are located on City or private property. The action to remove the trees was tabled, due to the scheduled review by consultant Gene Ryan at the location on Tuesday, September 28. Ryan’s observation will be presented to the Council for a decision at the next Council meeting.
Six bids were received for replacement of the roof on the Odell Public Library, with the low bid of $280,000 by Top Roofing awarded the project. The City of Morrison will fund approximately 20% of the replacement cost.
Enhancement of the fifth block of the Main Street Renovation received a surprise vote. The Council, by a vote of 4 to 3, approved the concrete surface and new curbs, gutters, and sidewalks for the area between Madison and Clinton Streets. The change, from repaired sidewalks and curbs with an asphalt street surface, to the same renovation guidelines that were applied to the four blocks to the west, will carry an additional price tag of $425,000. Funding of the additional enhancements focused on the available funds in the General Fund and Water and Sewer Fund, plus a contractor’s willingness to delay some billing into the next fiscal year.
The next scheduled meeting of the Morrison City Council is October 11, at the City Community Room, in Odell Public Library, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
