Third round action at the Warkin Cardinal Classic tourney saw the Morrison Fillies struggle as the game started. They only connected for one field goal in the first quarter and made only three-of-seven free throws, to allow the Ridgewood Rebels from north Chicago, IL, a 15-5 advantage.
Lakin Goodman entered the score book with nine second quarter points. The Fillies outscored the Rebels from the field but failed at the free throw line in four attempts. That ended the half with the score 26-18 in favor of Ridgewood.
The Rebels had seven players score in the third period and took a 12-point lead into the final quarter.
The Fillies came out for the final seven minutes in a half-court press that slowed the Rebels and allowed the Fillies to close to 40-35. Goodman connected on seven of her game-high 22 points. The Rebels retaliated by assigning a chaser to follow Goodman. The added pressure slowed the Fillie comeback and forced the Fillies to foul to save the clock. The Rebels completed 9-of-12 to seal the victory, 56-44.
