2025 Holy Week Services

Editor’s note:  There will be no Morrison, IL, Community Crosswalk.  However, on Good Friday, April 18, 2025, members of Morrison Ministers Council will hold short worship services, including Communion, at three residential homes:  10:00 a.m. Highlight Health of Morrison (500 N. Jackson Street); 1:00 p.m. Resthave Care & Rehabilitation (408 Maple Avenue); 2:00 p.m. Homestead Assisted Living & Nursing Care (405 Scenic Street.)  Members of the community are welcome to attend.

2025 Holy Week Services are listed for 14 Morrison, IL, area churches.  Holy Week is from Palm Sunday, April 13, through Easter Sunday, April 20.  Know that each Church welcomes new, lapsed, and long-time residents–as well as visitors–to attend their services.

Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, will hold a 9:00 a.m., April 13, Palm Sunday ritual, beginning with the “Blessing of the Palms” in the Fellowship Room, and then processing into the Sanctuary, while singing “All Glory, Laud, and Honor.”  Holy Communion will be celebrated. A potluck breakfast will follow at 10:30.  The Maundy Thursday, April 17, service with Holy Communion is at 7:00 p.m.  Included is a symbolic stripping of the altar/chancel space, symbolizing Christ being stripped of his power and handed to his captors.  Sanctuary lights will be dimmed; scripture will be read; the service ends in silence.  The April 18, contemplative Good Friday worship at 7:00 p.m. will focus on the cross.  Easter Morning worship, Sunday, April 20, is at 9:00 a.m., and features Holy Communion and special music by the Senior Choir.  Light refreshments will follow in the Fellowship Room.

Brethren in Christ Church, 209 E. Knox Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday, April 17, Foot Washing Service at 6:00 p.m., with Holy Communion offered, followed by a free dinner at 6:45.  All are welcome to attend.  Easter Sunday, April 20, begins with an outside Sonrise message by Eric Sipes at 8:30 a.m.; it will move indoors if case of bad weather.  A potluck brunch follows at 9:30.  At 10:30 the inside Resurrection service will include local music.  There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children afterwards.

Tom Scott.  Palm Sunday, April 13, at 9:00 a.m., Holy Eucharist Rite I, Liturgy of the Palms, and the Passion Gospel according to Luke, with Fr. Tom Lamb.  Maundy Thursday, April 17, Holy Eucharist Rite I, 5:30 p.m. with Fr. Tom Lamb.  Good Friday, April 18, Good Friday Liturgy and Passion Gospel according to John and Stations of the Cross, 4:00 p.m.  Holy Saturday Liturgy, on Holy Saturday, April 19, 7:00 a.m.  Easter Sunday, April 20, Holy Eucharist Rite II with hymns, 9:00 a.m. with Fr. Tom Scott.

Crossroads Community Church, will celebrate two, Easter worship services at 300 W. South Street, (formerly Morrison Christian Reformed Church) on Easter Sunday, April 20, at 9:00 and 10:45 a.m.  Multiple Baptisms will take place.  Contact Jon Eastlick at 815-908-9367 regarding a Baptism.

Ebenezer Reformed Church, 309 E. Park Street, on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 9:30 a.m., children will parade with palms in the sanctuary.  At 6:00 p.m. on Maundy Thursday, April 17, in the Fellowship Hall, a Jewish Seder Meal will be presented, with Ryan Karp from Chose People Ministries.  From 7:00 to 8:30 p.m., in the Sanctuary on Good Friday, April 18, the Victory Center will present a Funeral Service for Christ, “The Witness.”  On Sunday, April 20, in the parking lot listen to radio station 98.3 FM for the Easter Sunrise Service at 7:30 a.m.  Continental Breakfast begins in the Fellowship Hall at 8:00 a.m.  At 9:30 the Resurrection Celebration begins in the Sanctuary.

Emmanuel Church, 202 E. Morris Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday service, at 7:00 p.m. on April 17, which includes Holy Communion.  On Easter Sunday, April 20, worship service is at 9:00 a.m.  Featured music will feature the Praise Team and Sanctuary Choir. Coffee hour will follow.  There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for children afterwards.

First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, will hold 10:15 a.m. Holy Week in-person services and via live-streaming.  Palm Sunday, April 13, includes processing with palms in the Sanctuary.  Maundy Thursday service is April 17 at 7:00 p.m., with Holy Communion.  There is a 7:00 p.m., April 18, Good Friday service, “The Seven Last Words of Jesus.”  April 20 Easter Sunday worship is at 10:15 a.m.  Coffee hour in the basement dining room follows daytime services.  View services live on https://www.facebook.com/firstpresmorrison.

Kingdom Life Community Church, 11429 Ward Road, coffee will be served before the Easter service on Sunday, April 20, at 10:00 a.m.; Holy Communion will be offered.  A Nursery is available for infants to 3-year-olds.  Children’s Church is available for ages 4 to second grade, who will be dismissed during the Easter service.

Morrison First Baptist Church, 406 Maple Avenue, celebrates Palm Sunday Sermon, April13, at 10:00 a.m.  The Easter Sunday, April 20, service is at 10:00 a.m.

Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, warmly invites all community members to join these services.  During Palm Sunday, April 13, children and adults will process through the Sanctuary carrying a palm branch.  On Maundy Thursday, April 17, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a Tenebrae service, which focuses on Scripture readings and hymns related to the Last Supper.  Celebrate Easter Sunday, April 20, with our service at 9:00 a.m., followed by an Easter Egg Hunt inside the church.

Our Savior Lutheran Church-LCMS, 21496 Hazel Road, Palm Sunday, April 13, 9:00 a.m. Service, to celebrate the Church’s 150th Anniversary, with Guest Pastor Alan Buss and former Pastor Mike Winkelman.  Followed will be lunch and cake; the public is invited to attend.  Maundy Thursday, April 17, service and Holy Communion begin at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Sunday service, April 20, is at 9:00 a.m.  Coffee and treats follow.

St. Mary Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, will celebrate Palm Sunday, April 13, with members processing in the Sanctuary.  On April 17 the Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 6:00 p.m., followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament from 7:00 to 9:00.  Good Friday, April 18, offers a Solemn Liturgical Service of the Passion at 2:00 p.m.  Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass, on April 19, is at 7:30 p.m.  Easter Sunday Resurrection of the Lord Mass, April 20, begins at 9:00 a.m.  On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 27, Holy Hour and The Divine Mercy Chaplet begin at 2:00 p.m., with confessions from 2:05 to 2:40.  Benediction will follow.  Holy Communion is offered at all Masses.

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LC-MS, 601 N. Jackson Street, on Palm Sunday, April 13, at 9:45 a.m., the congregation will process with palms; the children’s choir will sing.  On Maundy Thursday, April 17, there will be a Lord’s Supper service at 7:00 p.m.  Included is Stripping of the Altar, symbolically representing Christ being stripped of his power and handed over to his captors.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.  Good Friday service is April 18, at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Sunday Sunrise service, April 20, is at 7:00 a.m., followed by breakfast from 8:15 to 9:15.  There is also a 9:30 service with Holy Communion; the choir will sing.

Spring Valley Reformed Church, 10960 Spring Valley Road, will host a children’s Egg Hunt on Saturday, April 12, at 1:00 p.m.  At 9:30 a.m. on Palm Sunday, April 13, there will be a procession of palms.  All are welcome to the 6:30 p.m. Maundy Thursday service on April 17, which includes Holy Communion.  An April 20 Easter Sunday Resurrection service begins at 9:30 a.m., followed by coffee hour.
