Watch live video of the eagles’ nest: Arconic Eagle Cam. The top photo is from an earlier year of Arconic eaglets.
If you see both adult Eagles at the Davenport, IA, Arconic property nest, the larger bird is the female, Liberty, by about 33%. She also has a longer hooked beak and does most of the nesting. Adult females reach 10-to-14 pounds, while males grow to between 8 and 11. Justice and his beak will appear noticeably smaller.
The American Bald eagle is not bald at all; its head is covered by white feathers. The adjective “bald” comes from the word piebald, meaning “spotty or patchy.”
Listed are names of eaglets hatched from the aerie high above Arconic-Davenport Works property in Davenport, since 2011. The birds are viewed around the clock, around the world.
Parents Liberty and Justice have produced numerous fledges: 2011 Freedom; 2012 Spirit, Faith, and Hope; 2013 Honor and Glory; 2014 Rudy; 2015 Star and Sky; 2016 Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo; 2017 Windy and Storm; 2018 unknown; 2019 unknown; 2020 Annaliese and Terry; 2021 unknown; 2022 Kay and unknown; 2023 unknown; 2024 Caitlin and Clark. Live births total 23.
Each year, Arconic employees and the public submit ideas for names, then a public vote takes place. (In 2012, over 200,000 names were suggested!)
Liberty watches her first egg–Caitlin; then she sits on Caitlin and egg two–Clark.
Caitlin hatched on April 1; Clark–a few days younger–hatched just shy of three weeks. April 12 showed a third egg was layed, but it did not hatch.
A May 23 meal shows Caitlin at right and much larger than Clark.
The eaglets at six weeks, Caitlin is at left.
Eaglets are now 8 weeks old; Clark is at right.
Sadly, on May 29, Clark passed away. Video seems to indicate he was choking on something.
At 11 weeks, survivor Caitlin fledged from the nest on June 14. She returns.
