2022 Cross Walk and Holy Week Services

2022 Holy Week Services are listed below for 16 Morrison, IL, churches.  Holy Week is from Palm Sunday, April 10, through Holy/Black Saturday, April 16.  Know that each Church welcomes new, lapsed, and long-time residents–as well as visitors–to attend services. 

On Good Friday, April 15, the annual ecumenical Community Cross Walk begins at Resthave Rehabilitation & Health Care, 408 Maple Avenue, at 12:15 p.m.  Community participants should arrive before that time.  Inside, on the Nursing side, Pastor Luke Schouten will give a brief Easter message.  A small bus will transport those unable to walk the half mile uphill.  Walkers progress north on Jackson Street to Pleasant View Rehabilitation & Health Care, 500 N. Jackson Street, where Pastor Tony Appel will speak inside the building.  The public is invited to attend the residential care facilities; walk with others; carry the cross for a while; watch the procession.  This event is organized by Morrison Minister Council.

Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday, April 14, service at 7:00 p.m., with Holy Communion celebrated. On April 15, Good Friday worship is at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Morning worship, Sunday, April 17, is at 9:00 a.m., with Holy Communion.

Brethren in Christ Church, 209 E. Knox Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday, April 14, Foot Washing service at 6:00 p.m., with Holy Communion offered, followed by a free dinner at 6:45.  All are welcome to attend.  Easter Sunday, April 17, begins with an outside Sonrise service at 8:45 a.m., and it will move indoors if case of bad weather.  A potluck brunch follows at 9:30.  At 10:30 the inside Resurrection service will include local music.

Church of Saint Anne-Episcopal, 401 N. Cherry Street, on Palm Sunday, April 10, offers at 8:00 a.m. Liturgy of the Palms and Low Mass; at 9:30 Liturgy of the Palms and Mass with music.  On Wednesday, April 13, there is In-Person Mass at 5:30.  On Maundy Thursday, April 14, there is In-Person Mass at 5:30.  The Watch begins after Mass In-PersonOn Good Friday, April 15, at 9:00 a.m. The Watch ends with In-Person Stations of the Cross.  At 5:30 p.m., Veneration of the Cross includes In-Person Mass of the Pre-Sanctified.  On Easter Day, the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, Sunday, April 17, there will be 8:00 a.m. In-Person Low Mass and 9:30 In-Person Mass.

Crossroads Community Church, 201 W. Market Street, (former Crave Building) will hold a 6:30 p.m., Good Friday, April 15, service and discuss the Seven Words of Jesus from the Cross; Holy Communion will be offered.  Worship services on Easter Sunday, April 17, are at 9:00 and 10:30 a.m.; Baptism is available at both services. Ebenezer Reformed Church, 309 E. Park Street, will host a Good Friday Tenebrae service on Friday, April 15, at 6:00 p.m.  The Transformation Easter service is at 9:30 a.m., on Sunday, April 17.

Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday service, at 7:00 p.m. on April 14, which includes Holy Communion.  On Easter Sunday, April 17, worship service is at 9:00 a.m.  Featured music will be by Exhaltation Praise Team; the Sanctuary Choir will sing “It Is Finished.”

First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, will hold all Holy Week in-person services and via live-streaming.  Maundy Thursday service is on April 14, at 7:00 p.m.  There is a 7:00 p.m., April 15, Good Friday service.  The Easter Sunday, April 17, service is at 10:15 a.m.  View services live on https://www.facebook.com/groups/firstpresmorrison.

Kingdom Life Community Church, 11429 Ward Road, will have April 15, Good Friday service at 6:00 p.m. with Lyle Wilkins.  Easter service is on Sunday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m.; Holy Communion is available.  A Nursery is available for infants to 3-year-olds.  Children’s Church is available for 4 to 6-year-olds, who will be dismissed during the Easter service.

Morrison Christian Church, 201 S. Genesee Street, will celebrate the Resurrection of Christ on Easter Sunday, April 17, with a potluck brunch at 9:00 a.m.; Easter worship is at 10:00.  Holy Communion will be offered.  Shelly Jaquet and the Warriors in God’s Service (WINGS) youth group will offer vocal music.

Morrison Christian Reformed Church, 300 W. South Street, will hold a service on Easter Sunday, April 17,  at 8:45 a.m.

Morrison First Baptist Church, 406 Maple Avenue, celebrates Easter Sunday, April 17, at 10:00 a.m.

Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, will accommodate all who come to worship.  The Maundy Thursday, April 14, 7:00 p.m. service will focus on Scripture readings and hymns related to the Last Supper.  Holy Communion will be offered.  Good Friday Prayer Time, April 15, is from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.; all are invited to come to the Chapel to pray and reflect on Jesus’s crucifixion.  Easter Sunday Service, April 17, will be at 9:00 a.m., featuring “He Is Risen” by Joel Raney, led by Choral Director John Frame.

Our Savior Lutheran Church-LCMS, 21496 Hazel Road, Maundy Thursday, April 14, service and Holy Communion begin at 7:00 p.m.  Easter Sunday service, April 17, is at 9:00 a.m.  Coffee and treats follow.

St. Mary Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, will hold an April 14, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 6:30 p.m.[, followed by Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament until 10:00 p.m.]  Good Friday, April 15, Solemn Liturgical Service of the Passion is at 2:00 p.m., with Stations of the Cross at 6:00 p.m.  Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass, on April 16, is at 7:30 p.m.  Easter Sunday Resurrection of the Lord Mass, April 17, is at 10:00 a.m.  On Divine Mercy Sunday, April 24, there will be a Vigil Mass at 2:00 p.m.   It includes the Holy Hour and Divine Mercy Chaplet prayer times.  Holy Communion is offered at all masses.

St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LC-MS, 601 N. Jackson Street, on April 14, Maundy Thursday,  will have a Lord’s Supper service at 7:00 p.m.  Included is Stripping of the Altar, symbolically representing Christ being stripped of his power and handed over to his captors.  Holy Communion will be celebrated.  Good Friday service is April 15, at 7:00 p.m.  On Easter Sunday, April 17, the Sunrise service is at 7:00 a.m., followed by breakfast from 8:00 to 9:15.  There is also a 9:30 service.

Spring Valley Reformed Church, 10960 Spring Valley Road, will hold a pot luck meal symbolizing the Last Supper, on Maundy Thursday, April 14, at 6:00 p.m.  The Easter Sunday, April 17, Resurrection service is at 9:30 a.m.  Fellowship time follows, with coffee and snacks.
