“Peace Soup,” is the annual supper and discussion series held on the Tuesdays of Lent, at 6:00 p.m., in Prince of Peace Parish Hall, 1105 LaMetta Wynn Drive, Clinton, IA. It is sponsored by Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Pax Christi and the Sisters of St. Francis. The event is free and open to the public; no registration is required.
The first supper is Tuesday, March 12; the series concludes Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
Each Tuesday evening includes a simple supper of homemade soup and bread followed by a program and discussion. All anyone need bring is an appetite for good conversation and good soup.
This year the programs center on “Living the Pillars of Joy,” being the change needed in our world. Discussion will glean lessons from The Book of Joy, by His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
On March 12 the topic is Generosity. Father Michael Schaab has served as a Priest in the Diocese of Peoria, IL, for over four decades as a Pastor, an Educator and a Spiritual Director in seminaries, and as a Retreat Facilitator in the United States, Europe, Africa, and Central America.
March 19 deals with Forgiveness. Sister Janet Ryan is a Clinton Franciscan Sister who is currently a Program Manager and Coordinator for Precious Blood Ministry Reconciliation, located in the Back of the Yards neighborhood in Chicago, IL. She lives and volunteers at Su Casa Catholic Worker.
March 26 covers Perspective. Martha Bonte is a Humanities Instructor at Eastern Iowa Community College and a Board Member for Information, Referral, and Assistance Services and River Bluff Community Foundation.
April 2 discusses Compassion. Bill Schemer, who has 26 years of experience in Law Enforcement in Phoenix, AZ, most of which was spent working to end human trafficking, is currently a member of the Anti-trafficking Committee in Clinton, where he continues to educate people on the topic of human trafficking.
April 9 concludes with Gratitude. Sister Ruth E. Westmoreland is a Clinton Franciscan with many years of experience helping people with food scarcity and issues of homelessness. Currently she is a Court Appointed Special Advocate, a person who serves as a voice in court, for abused and neglected children.
