Editor’s note: On Thursday, August 30, 2018, Whiteside County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Michael Leighton submitted this announcement.
“[The Sheriff’s Office has] received calls pertaining to the 2018 Youth Fishing Derby and its location at Rockwood State Park, with it being under construction. Currently the docks are being replaced. But keeping [with] the nearly 50 years of tradition, the Derby will go on as planned at Rockwood State Park.”
He added, “We ask for a little patience with the parking and limited space for fishing on the outer banks. Nonetheless, this will still be a fantastic day for the children. [We] look forward to seeing you there!”
