On Friday, September 16, 2016, the Fulton Windmill Education Committee hosted their fourth annual “Windmill Area Bake Off.” This was the first year when children were encouraged to enter the competition. Each child was given the same cookie recipe using fine, wheat flour from de Immigrant windmill. They were able to use additional items to enhance the traditional cookie.
Winners in the children’s division were:
- First Place: Owen Brubaker. Added “secret” ingredients.
- Second Place: Raelee Zook. Added toffee bits, mini chocolate chips, and drizzled caramel.
- Third Place: Duke Walsh. Added cocoa, white and chocolate chips, and mini M&M candies.
The adult division was divided into categories, based on the flour used by the baker. First prizes were given for using fine wheat, flax, unsifted wheat, and buckwheat flours.
The winners for the adult category were:
- Marty Brubaker, Fine Wheat, “Jam Filled Sugar Cake”
- Judy Holesinger, Flax/Wheat, “Carrot Snack Cake”
- Suzanne VerHoeven, Unsifted Wheat, “Fruit Filled Toaster Pastries”
- Betty Wiebenga, Buckwheat/Fine Wheat, “Carrot Cake”
