March 2016 Holy Week services are listed below for 16 Morrison, IL, churches. Each invites new and long-time residents as well as visitors to attend.
The annual ecumenical Community Cross Walk is Good Friday, March 25, beginning at 12:15 p.m. at Resthave Home, 408 Maple Avenue. Clergymen James Clement, St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, and Gerry Norman, Ebenezer Reformed Church, will offer Easter messages. Participants unable to walk to Pleasant View Nursing & Rehabilitation, 500 N. Jackson Street, (one mile round-trip) may ride the complimentary bus provided by Scenic Stage Line, Inc.
Bethesda Lutheran Church, 301 W. South Street, will hold March 24, Maundy Thursday, services beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the sanctuary with worship, Holy Communion, and the “stripping of the Altar.” A Good Friday Tenebrae service on March 25 will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunrise Service on Sunday, March 27, is at 7:00 a.m., with a second service at 9:00; both will distribute Holy Communion and have the choir perform. Between services, from 8:00 to 9:00, a light brunch is available. Children in grades six and under will enjoy an egg hunt following the 9:00 service.
Brethren in Christ Church, 209 E. Knox Street, will hold a Maundy Thursday, March 25, Foot Washing service at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 6:30 meal. The public and congregants are invited to attend just the meal, if desired. On Sunday, March 27, “Sonrise” service is at 8:00 a.m., led by the BIC youth group, followed by a free community breakfast at 9:00. A second service is at 10:00.
Crossroads Community Church will offer Holy Communion at noon on Good Friday, March 25, at the Crave Building, 201 W. Market Street. There will be two services at MIT Auditorium, 701 Portland Avenue, on Sunday, March 27. At 8:00 a.m. will be a Family Service with Water Baptisms. No Kidzlink Children’s Ministry will be held during this service. A Continental Breakfast will be offered between services. Ebenezer Reformed Church, 309 E. Park Street, will hold a Palm Sunday, March 20, Parade service at 9:30 a.m. March 24, Maundy Thursday, services including Holy Communion begin at 6:30 p.m. Easter Sunday, March 27, begins with breakfast from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m., followed by the service at 9:30. Butterflies will be released outdoors at 10:30.
Emmanuel Reformed Church, 202 E. Morris Street, will hold a March 20, Palm Sunday service with Choir anthems, Praise Team, and Palm Processional; March 24, Maundy Thursday, services at 7:00 p.m. with Holy Communion. On Easter Sunday, March 27, worship service is at 9:00 a.m. and includes music by the Praise Team and Choir. Coffee hour follows.
First Baptist Church, 406 Maple Avenue, will hold March 24, Maundy Thursday, service at 6:00 p.m. with Holy Communion. On Easter Sunday, March 27, children’s Sunday School will meet at 8:45; the worship service is at 10:00 a.m.
First Presbyterian Church of Morrison, 100 E. Lincolnway, will hold a March 20, Palm Sunday service at 10:15 a.m.; March 24, Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. with Holy Communion. There is a 7:00 p.m., March 25, Good Friday, service. The Easter Sunday, March 27, service is at 10:15 a.m.
Morrison Christian Church, 201 S. Genesee Street, will hold a Palm Sunday youth mini-musical on March 20 at 10:00 a.m. Following is a potluck (bring one dish) brunch; beverages are furnished. Morrison Christian Reformed Church, 300 W. South Street, will hold a March 20, Palm Sunday service at 9:00 a.m. At 10:30 there will be a Farewell Potluck Meal to celebrate the retirement of Pastor Jim Peterson. March 24, Maundy Thursday, services will be at 7:00 p.m. and held at Bethel Christian Reformed Church, 1208 3rd Avenue, Fulton, IL. Easter Sunday, March 27, service is at 9:00.
Morrison United Methodist Church, 200 W. Lincolnway, will hold March 20, Palm Sunday services at 8:00 and 10:15 a.m.; March 24, Maundy Thursday, Tenebrae service and Holy Communion begins at 7:00 p.m.; Good Friday, March 25, individual silent prayer and meditation is available from noon to 3:00 p.m. A service from 3:00 to 3:30 p.m., remembering Good Friday and anticipating Easter, also will be held March 25. There will be three Easter morning services on Sunday, March 27: 6:30 to 7:00 outside Sunrise Service, with breakfast following; 8:00; 10:15 a.m. Sunday School is at 9:00.
Open Bible Fellowship, 11429 Ward Road, will hold a 6:30 a.m. Sunrise Service at the main, hilltop pavillion at Morrison-Rockwood State Park, on Easter Sunday, March 27. The Easter church service is at 10:00 a.m.
Our Savior Lutheran Church LCMS, 21496 Hazel Road, will hold March 24, Maundy Thursday, service and Holy Communion at 7:00 p.m. Easter Sunday service, March 27, is at 9:00.
St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, 401 N. Cherry Street, will hold March 24, Maundy Thursday, service at 6:30 p.m. Holy Eucharist (Rite I) with foot washing, Stripping of the Altar, and Watch at the Altar of Repose. A 10:00 a.m. March 25, Good Friday, is Holy Eucharist (Rite I) with Reserve Sacrament. At noon on Holy Saturday, March 26, there will be a Contemplative Prayer service. Sunday, March 27, begins at 9:00 a.m. with lighting of the Pascal Candle and Holy Eucharist (Rite II.) Coffee hour will follow.
St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13320 Garden Plain Road, will hold a Palm Sunday Vigil Mass on Saturday, March 19, at 5:30 p.m. and at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 20. March 24, Holy Thursday Mass of the Lord’s Supper is at 6:30 p.m. Good Friday, March 25, Solemn Liturgical Service of the Passion is at 12:15 p.m. Holy Saturday Easter Vigil Mass, Saturday, March 26, is at 7:30 p.m. Easter Sunday Resurrection of the Lord Mass, March 27, is at 9:00 a.m. Holy Communion is offered at all masses.
St. Peter Evangelical Lutheran Church LCMS, 601 N. Jackson Street, will hold a March 24, Maundy Thursday service at 7:00 p.m. Good Friday service is on March 25 at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, March 27, the early service is at 7:00 a.m., followed by breakfast from 8:00 to 9:15; there is also a 9:30 service. There will be no Sunday School.
Spring Valley Reformed Church, 10960 Spring Valley Road, offers March 24, Maundy Thursday Tenebrae service with Holy Communion at 6:00 p.m. The Easter Sunday, March 27, service is at 9:30 a.m.
