One anticipated aspect of visiting the Whiteside County Fair is the plethora of food options. Many of the ???? people who attended in August 2016 had a “favorite fair food” to savor once a year. Only two eating establishments, however, offer a place to sit out of the weather.
KJ’s Cafe is owned by Kent Shepard. He is shown multi-tasking on Friday, August 19, behind the counter. He was found there–or thereabouts–from 5:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. daily. This is Sherard’s sixth year running the restaurant. “Customers are about average” this year, he opined, in spite of a rainy week.
The Whiteside County Livestock Feeders Pavilion serves food cooked by the Whiteside County Cattlemen’s Association. Frequent, long, order lines are worth the wait.
In conjunction with the Cattlemen’s Association sales, Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation has sold delicious dairy products for over half a century. Choices are hand-dipped ice cream cones and milkshakes and milk. Farm Bureau Executive Director Matt Lillpop reported 370 gallons of ice cream and 90 gallons of milk were ordered from Dean Foods, during the fair.
