Each August six youthS leave the fairgrounds with a new bicycle. Children enter their name for a daily drawing at 6:00 p.m., with an extra draw at 2:00 on Saturday. Generous donors make this joyful experience possible. The 2016 Annual Whiteside County Fair bike winners follow. Towns are in Illinois unless noted.
Tuesday, August 16: Megan Folkers of Morrison. Her bike sponsor was Joel Downie CPA of Rock Falls.
Wednesday, August 17: Macy Williamson, 12, Morrison, became a seventh grader today. She has a bike, but explained, “It’s broken.” She will be able to ride her bicycle on the Morrison-Rockwood Bike Trail. Her bike sponsor was food vendor Charlie the Cheesman & Sons.
Thursday, August 18: Brock Ballard, right, age 8, Lyndon, started third grade this week at Prophetstown Elementary School. His brother, Tyler, 11, entered sixth grade in Tampico. Brock stated he has “a kind of” good bike. He will not ride it to school, but said, “I’ll ride this around town a lot!” His bike sponsor was Whiteside County Central Agricultural Society.
Friday, August 19: Brayden Celestino, 5, Sterling, starts kindergarten Monday, August 22. He has a bike. He proudly announced, “The training wheels were just removed!” Although it will be awhile before he can manage this bike, but he will grow into it. The family “is getting a new house” he said, with a driveway. “Red and blue are my favorite colors!” His bike sponsor was Farmers National Bank of Morrison.
2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20: Hunter Bush, Erie. His bike sponsor was Five Star Enterprises of Morrison.
6:00 p.m., Saturday, August 20: Kaylee Wilson, 14, Tipton, IA, is a ninth grader who will ride her bike to school. Her bike has a broken chain and is unfit to ride. She spent the week helping her family at the fair. Her grandparents, Kevin and Debra Wilson, own the Wilson Family Carnival Rides. Her mother, Kassie Wilson, owns the games. Her bike sponsor was The Cornerstone Agency, Inc., Morrison.
