New this year was a $500 drawing from all the Whiteside County Fair season ticket holders. The winner of $500 is Rachel Magana of Morrison, IL.
Also on Saturday, August 16, 2014, two lucky youth received free Pacific mountain bikes. The winner of the 2:00 p.m. drawing was 11-year-old Allie Jo Adams of Morrison. Grant Wilson, 10 of Morrison, took home the last bicycle of the 144th Whiteside County Fair, at the 6:00 drawing. The fifth grader noted he owned a bike, but “it broke.” He has no safety helmet. Farmers National Bank, 1100 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, was the generous sponsor.
Dana Verdick led several bicycle winners to the Blue Building for a photograph. On this evening her children accompanied her: 11-week-old Carson Kenseth and sister Hailey Kenseth. Carson his one of the youngest babies to visit the fair.
The striking “pointillism” mural of a trio of harness racers was created by Morrison High School art students. It hangs in the Agriculture Building. The Fair Board invited area high school Art Departments to submit large murals.
Listed are award winners in these Departments: Kids Tractor Pedal Pull, Open Beef, Truck and Tractor Pull, Horseshoe Tournament, and Open Culinary. All entrants are from Illinois unless noted.
