In advance of the Illinois Primary Election on Tuesday, June 28, 2022, Morrison Historical Society offers a program by Mary Beth Dombroski of Morrison, IL. Citizens of a newly-formed Whiteside County were first allowed to vote for President in 1836. Who was eligible to vote? What were the criteria?
Dombroski will discuss the slate of candidates in the National Election. Vying for the office of President were four members of the Whig Party and one Democratic candidate.
In about 2000, she was invited to join the Morrison Historical Society Board of Trustees and to hold the office of Treasurer. Many will remember her as Whiteside County Fair Secretary during 21 years. She was employed there for two years, before accepting the position of Secretary. Now retired, there is time for research, genealogy, and reading, she stated.
The event is on Sunday, June 12, at Morrison’s Heritage Museum, 202 E. Lincolnway, Morrison, IL. Doors open at 1:00 p.m., and the program begins promptly at 1:30.
Interested Morrison Historical Society members, Whiteside County history buffs, and the general public are invited to attend. Bring a pen or pencil to vote for one-of-five candidates for President. A simple roster/ballot will be marked by adults and collected for tabulation.
Completed in 1865, Morrison’s Heritage Museum is a former Congregational Church. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Air-conditioning and accessibility via a ramp at the back will add to your comfort. Refreshments will be served.
