Crossing at Route 78 (Cherry Street) Closed to Traffic |
|
The City of Morrison is re-disseminating an announcement made by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that Illinois 78 (Cherry Street) at the railroad crossing in Morrison will be closed to all through traffic from Monday, July 13, through Friday, July 24, 2009. This closure will allow the Union Pacific (UP) Railroad to make needed repairs to the at-grade crossing located between Wall Street and Market Street. A detour has been established utilizing Wall Street and Orange Street. The detour from the south will be Wall Street west to Orange Street, then north on Orange Street to IL 78/US 30 (Lincoln Highway). The detour from the north will be IL 78/US 30 (Lincoln Highway) west to Orange Street, then south on Orange Street, then east on Wall Street to IL 78. Working with IDOT, the City of Morrison explored alternative detours that included the railroad crossings at Jackson, Genesee, and Heaton Streets. Due to factors that include clearances, turn radius needs and sufficient railroad track length needed by UP to make repairs, the Orange Street option was the best solution for the detour route. Signing will be in place to inform the traveling public of the detour. In order to facilitate a rapid road closure, detour signing will be placed Friday, July 10. The detour will not be in effect until the morning of Monday, July 13th. The public is asked to be alert for the road closure, expect increased traffic on Wall and Orange Streets, and reduce speed when traveling in this area. by Editor, theCity1.com |
