August 28, 1932 - April 19, 2009 VILETTA M. ATHERTON, 76, of 812 Lucas Ave., Thomson, IL, died Sunday April 19, 2009 at Trillium Specialty Hospital in Mesa, AZ. Viletta was born August 28, 1932 in Sterling, IL, to George M. and Edna M. (Coble) Pfundstein. She was educated in the Sterling grade schools and graduated from Chadwick High School in 1950. She attended the University of Dubuque in Dubuque, IA for two years, and went on to earn a BA in Education at Northern IL University in DeKalb, IL. She married Vernon E. “Hap” Temple on June 18, 1955 in Sterling, IL. She then married John Atherton on July 1, 1984 in Las Vegas, NV. Viletta taught 5th and 8th grade in the Fulton, IL schools, retiring after 33 years of teaching. She was a member of the Fulton Presbyterian Church for 50 years, a Trustee for 8 years at the York Township Public Library and a member of the Library’s Page Turners Book Club. She was also a long time member of the Fulton Bridge Club. Viletta loved to knit, read, put together puzzles and do crossword puzzles. She enjoyed traveling with her husband John and spending time with her grandchildren. Survivors include her husband, John; one daughter, Cynthia A. Temple of Davenport, IA; one son, James E. (Lynne) Temple of Ringgold, GA; one step daughter, Cynthia (Randy) McGinnis of Thomson, IL; two step sons, Randy (Brenda) Atherton and Steve (Becky) Atherton, both of Thomson, IL; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Ann Friesen of Toronto Canada.
