May 12, 1918 - April 21, 2009 DONALD C. DYKE, 90, of 601 Christopher Street in Morrison, IL died Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at Four Seasons Living Center in Morrison, IL. Donald was born on May 12, 1918 in Thomson, IL to Peter and Jennie (Prins) Dyke. He was educated in the Thomson grade schools and graduated from Morrrison High School in 1935. He then went on to graduate from Scovill Business College in Sterling, IL. He married Carlene J. Nice on June 26, 1946 in Morrison, IL. She died on September 8, 1991. He later married Irene Zuidema on August 14, 1993 in Morrison, IL. Don worked for several years for Wilson and Co. in Cedar Rapids, IA and Chicago, IL. He started farming in 1942 on the Potter farm located southeast of Morrison and farmed until his retirement. Donald enjoyed custom farming for others. He was a member of Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison, IL where he served on the consistory both as a deacon and as an elder. He served one term as the consistory Vice President. Don loved taking part in church family activities. He also served on the board of the Farmer’s Elevator for 15 years, with the last four years of that term serving as President. He enjoyed golf and spending winters in Arizona. Survivors include his wife, Irene; one son, John (Penny) Dyke of Morrison, IL; three grandchildren, Jamie Buhlen, Darin Dyke and Justin Dyke; three step daughters, Karen (Ted) Hook of Volo, IL, Sandy (Ron) Behrens of Sterling, IL, and Dawn (Mike) Zuidema of Morrison, IL; one step son, Norman Moret of Geneva, IL; and twelve step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carlene; one son, James R. Dyke; one brother, John Dyke; and one step granddaughter, Katie Zuidema.
