Whiteside County Health Department Swine Flu Update 4/30/09 |
|
Whiteside County has no individuals with positive swine flu virus results as of 9:00 am Thursday April 30, 2009. Continual surveillance is taking place and appropriate specimens are being sent to the state lab by the Whiteside County Health Department for testing. The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and CDC update the health department staff on an hourly basis. The Whiteside County Emergency Task Force has met and contingency plans are being made in case of a positive swine flu case in the county. Travel to Mexico and other infected areas should take place only if absolutely necessary. Travelers returning from infected areas should carefully monitor their health for seven days. If the traveler develops a fever he/she should stay at home and seek advice from their medical provider. If a positive case is identified in Whiteside County, the health department will make recommendations based on the recommendations of IDPH and the CDC. These recommendations could include the closing of the school in which the case is found. Residents with school children should have a contingency plan on daycare for their children if this scenario develops. Please do your part in containing this outbreak. Wash your hands. Stay out of school and work if you are sick. For questions please go to: Illinois Department of Public Health. by Editor, theCity1.com |
