MCH Puts a New Emphasis on Staff Education |
|
Morrison Community Hospital is collaborating with the University of Iowa, OSF, Rockford Memorial, and Mercy Medical Center to begin offering advanced training to their hospital staff and EMS staff. The new classes and seminars have already begun and are providing MCH staff with the knowledge necessary to become experts in their departments. Patients will benefit from the small community hospital environment with highly educated, professional staff. “Larger hospitals generally have more resources and we are honored that they are willing to share them with us. We take our jobs very seriously and we want to challenge ourselves. The staff members know that they will spend a lot of extra hours in an educational setting but we are all doing it for our patients. So, it’s worth it,” said Steve Paulsen, Director of Ambulance Services & Education. MCH has already offered its staff Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support for Experienced Providers, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization, wound care, disaster planning, and hostile action training. Upcoming trainings will include TEAM (Trauma Evaluation And Management), NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program), and pediatric training (asthma, newborn sepsis, hyperbilirubinemia, pyloric stenosis). Planned this summer are the Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course and Trauma Nurse Core Course. Training seminars will be available to staff on a monthly basis. Hospital administration is also encouraging higher education and certification of staff. by Editor, theCity1.com |
