Fill the Boot Campaign Kicks Off At Jr. High

In honor of Veteran’s Day, the History Department at Morrison Jr. High kicked off a fundraiser on Tuesday, November 11. “Fill The Boot” is a campaign to raise money for veterans and their families of the current war. Three organizations have been chosen to receive money from the fundraiser – Wounded Warrior Project, Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund, and the American Widows Project. Students will vote during the year to decide how much money will go to each organization.

The History teachers showed the students a touching video as a tribute to all veterans. Some local veterans were contacted and asked to loan their military boots to the Jr. High for the year. The students can put their loose change or dollar bills in the boots. As with most fundraisers, a competition to see which class can raise the most money has been started. The sixth grade students can donate their money in Mr. Deter’s classroom. Each sixth grade history class has its own boot in his room. Seventh and eight grade students can donate money to the boot in their home rooms.

The public is welcome to participate too. If you would like to make a donation, please contact Mark & Tonia Ernst at 815-772-2816.
