4th and 5th Graders Create Pinatas

Making Pinatas

Teacher, Lori Kennedy assists in the decorating

Lori Kennedy and Stephanie Kosier's Reading classes at Southside School constructed paper mache piņatas. The 4th and 5th graders created the piņatas to reinforce the concepts of sequencing and steps in a process.

Step by step instructions were given to the groups. It was explained to them what would happen if the instructions were not followed in sequence. The pages of the instructions also contained vocabulary words to learn and tips listed.

Things got a little messy and sticky as the groups dipped newspaper strips into a flour/water mixture to form them around a balloon. The balloon forms were then hung in a tree to dry. The children then used their imaginations to put the finishing decorating touches on their creations.
