When students entered the Morrison High School on Monday morning, October 6th, they were greeted with paintings and posters displayed in preparation for homecoming. “Welcome to the Jungle” is the homecoming theme this year, and the school shows it.

Pictures of animals have been posted throughout the hallways; vines have been painted on windows and doors; and posters with jungle themed slogans flourish throughout the building. Not only is the school decorated with a jungle theme, but also decorations that reflect the pride of the students in their teams and their grade levels.

Along with the school, the students are also “decorated.” Morrison students can dress up each day of the homecoming week with a special theme. Themes for the week are jungle fever (pajamas) and twin day on Monday, camouflage and backwards day on Tuesday, and on Wednesday the themes are class colors (freshman wearing purple, sophomores being orange, juniors are green, and seniors are blue) or ‘dress like an animal’. Farmers in the jungle and safari day are the choices for Thursday, and on Friday students can wear red and white or extreme red and white. Each class competes against one another based on how many people out of each class dress-up. To show extra spirit and to get extra points, a student can dress up to the “extreme.” For example, a person could simply just wear red and white (Morrison’s colors) on Friday, or they can wear as much of those two colors as they possibly can (hence the name “extreme red and white”).

Before the big game on Friday, there is a pep rally called Thuse on Thursday night. Students can participate in several various activities such as class pyramid, eating contest, are you smarter than your high schooler, and powder puff football. It makes for a very fun-filled night. The week ends with the homecoming parade, the Morrison Mustangs taking on the Bureau Valley Storm, and the highly anticipated homecoming dance on Saturday night.
