SS School Receives $5,000 Grant from the Sprint Foundation

Sprint (NYSE: S) recently announced the recipients for the Sprint Ahead for Education grant program. Sprint Ahead for Education is a brand-new program that supports innovative character-education initiatives through funding of K-12 public schools and school districts. A total of 19 school districts received up to $25,000 in grant funds, and 45 public schools received funding up to $5,000. In total, the Sprint Foundation awarded more than $607,000 in grant funding for this program.

Out of nearly 1,200 applicants Southside School was selected as a 2008 Sprint Ahead for Education grant recipient. Southside School received a $5,000 Sprint Ahead for Education grant for its P.E.A.C.E. program.

Specifically, the P.E.A.C.E program at Southside School seeks to fulfill the following objectives:

* to provide stuents with clear character expectations for the 2008-09 school year.

* to reward students who exhibit Politeness, Excellence, Attitude, Citizenship, and Exemplary behavior.

* to provide students with clear examples of individuals who exhibit character, are positive role models, and make a difference in our community.

* to provide students with an opportunity to actively participate in their community by engaging in quarterly, all-school community service endeavors.

* to provide students with active, hands-on, monthly opportunities to work cooperatively together as a team and build positive relationships with their peers.

“We are excited to be able to offer additional character education opportunities in our school and classrooms,” commented Morrison Elementary Programs and Services Coordinator Anji Garza.

“Sprint is committed to helping educators develop the right character education initiatives for their student population,” said Debby Ballard, director of Community Relations for Sprint. “The Sprint Ahead for Education program is a competitive program and the winning schools and districts should be extremely proud of their accomplishment. The program allows teachers and administrators to implement unique and innovative programs that will have a profoundly positive impact on their students.

Mazzola, executive director, The Character Education Partnership. “Sprint understands this.
