Foundation Providing Grants to Whiteside County Teachers

The Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation, in partnership with the Whiteside County Pork Producers, Whiteside County Cattleman’s Association, Gold Star FS, and COUNTRY Insurance & Financial Services, is offering up to five grants of $200 to Whiteside county teachers beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.

The grants are to help fund projects promoting agricultural literacy in the classroom. Grant guidelines are as follows:

* Projects may be, but are not limited to, agricultural teaching units, classroom presentations, field trips, and career fairs. Be creative and develop an interesting, valuable agricultural experience for students.

* Projects should focus on integrating agriculture into a variety of curriculum areas.

* Priority for grants will be given to grants that contain materials for use over multiple school years.

* Grants will not fund consumable items. Funding for landscaping, plants, incubators and one-time use consumables will receive lower priority.

* Projects combining multiple classrooms are eligible to apply.

Applications must be received in the Farm Bureau office by 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 1, 2008. Faxed applications will be accepted. Teachers selected for project funding will be notified by Friday, October 3, 2008. A final report, accounting, and project evaluation will be due to the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009. Guidelines for the final report will be mailed with checks.

Applications are available at the Whiteside County Regional Office of Education office. You can also contact the Whiteside County Farm Bureau Foundation at (815) 772-2165 or by emailing Matt Lillpop, Executive Director of Whiteside County Farm Bureau, at matt.wcfb@frontiernet.net.
