Morrison Education Foundation Scholarship Winners for 2008

Michael Benson, Taylor Boyles and Michael Stralow, Morrison Community High School Class of 2008, have been selected to receive Morrison Education Foundation Scholarships.

These awards will be applied toward their college expenses, and are renewable for three years.

Michael Benson, son of Mary and Eric Benson, will attend Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His goal is to major in journalism and mass communication, with an emphasis on sports reporting.

Taylor Boyles, a son of Sharon and David Boyles, plans to attend Willamette University in Salem, OR. There he will prepare for a career in art and music therapy. He will also explore the field of political science.

Michael Stralow is a son of Carol and Kurt Stralow. He will attend Wheaton College in Wheaton. He expects his chosen major, theological and biblical studies, to lead him to seminary and the parish ministry and mission work.

Morrison Education Foundation Scholarship winners are selected on the basis of their formal applications, written recommendations of four adults, and personal interviews with a selection committee.

Anna M. Tucker initiated this scholarship program in 1987, to “promote and reward educational achievement.” Mrs. Tucker and her husband, William H. Tucker, were life-long residents of Morrison, graduating from Morrison High School in 1915.

Morrison Education Foundation continues to receive contributions from people who support the Foundation’s purposes and plans. In addition to college scholarships and one-time awards, many classroom programs designed by teachers have been funded at all grade levels.

Library and music department equipment, science and art room renovations are among the projects partially funded by the Foundation.
