Matthew Naftzger Among Award Winners from Ashford


Dr. Barbara Philibert presented the James L. Mooney Award to Matt Naftzger


Krista Hussung received the Iowa CPA Society Award presented by David Ward.


Mike Burton presented the Business Department Scholars Award to Kelsey Sherman.


Dr. Barbara Philibert presented the James L. Mooney Award to Renee Simmonds


Dr. Robert Engelson presented the Joan Walsh Richseon Award to Emily Schumacher.


The Alex Esquivel Promising Teacher Award was presented to Allison Dawn Schultz and Matt Naftzger by Dr. Joen Rottler.


Faculty Excellence Awards were presented during Saturday’s graduation ceremony. Recipients included: Natasha Gittens, Excellence in Online Teaching; Shukhrat Usmanov, Excellence in Research and Creative Endeavors; Jenny Pauckner, Excellence in Public Service; Amy Kramer, Excellence in Teaching and Grace Johnson, Excellence in Campus Accelerated Teaching. Not pictured is Terri Bousselot, Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Technology.

Several students and faculty members were recognized for their achievements during Ashford University during the institution’s spring commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10. More than 660 students graduated from Ashford in May, making the ceremony the largest in the institution’s history.

During the afternoon graduation ceremony, the University presented special student awards to:

Krista Hussung, Sterling, Illinois, the Accounting Student Award, sponsored by the Iowa Society of Certified Public Accountants to recognize the top accounting graduate;

Kelsey Sherman, Clinton, Iowa, the Business Department’s Scholars Award, given to the highest ranking graduate in business;

Renee Simmonds, Clinton, Iowa and Matthew Naftzger, Morrison, Illinois, the James L. Mooney Social Science Award, which recognizes the Social Science graduate with the highest grade point average;

Emily Schumacher, Lyndon, Illinois, the Joan Walsh Richeson Award, given to the liberal arts major who best personifies the values of a liberal arts education and

Allison Dawn Schultz, Clinton, Iowa and Matthew Natzger, Morrison, Illinois, the Alex Esquivel Promising Teacher Award, given to a teacher education graduate who shows exceptional potential as an educator.

Faculty Excellence Awards were presented were the following:

Amy Kramer, the Excellence in Teaching Award, given to an individual whose command of their discipline, teaching methodologies, communication skills, concern for student performance, and commitment to the learning process exemplifies the teacher/mentor model;

Natasha Gittens the Excellence in Online Teaching Award, given to a superior online teacher which is exemplified by an individual whose command of their discipline, teaching methodologies, communication skills, concern for student performance, and commitment to the learning process exemplifies the teacher/mentor model;

Grace Johnson, the Excellence in Teaching – Campus Accelerated Award, given to a superior accelerated classroom teacher which is exemplified by an individual whose command of their discipline, teaching methodologies, communication skills, concern for student performance, and commitment to the learning process exemplifies the teacher/mentor mode;

Shukhrat Usmanov, the Excellence in Research or Creative Endeavors Award, given to an individual whose research or creative endeavors have been particularly successful and are recognized locally, regionally or nationally;

Jenny Pauckner, the Excellence in Public Service Award, given to an individual who has brought credit to Ashford University through successful efforts in applying the content or skills of their academic disciplines in service to the community, state, or nation in areas of public interest and

Terri Bousselot, the Excellence in Teaching and Learning through Technology Award, given to recognize innovative faculty efforts to integrate technology, teaching and learning.
