CCC Community Education offers Kid's Summer Classes

SUMMER FRENCH BRAIDING - Just in time for summer! Moms, dads, grandparents – bring your daughter to class and learn the art of “French” braiding, reverse “French” braiding, two-plaited braiding and other ideas for putting up your daughter’s hair for the hot summer. There will be time in class to practice the different braids. One child is free with each adult registration. Bring a hairbrush, spray bottle and rubber bands to class. This class is held on Thursday, May 15 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the main campus, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. The fee is $11. Register for class # 48401.

DIGITAL NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY FOR KIDS - Do you have a digital camera and want to learn how to take better pictures? Spend a morning with an avid photographer and learn the basics of nature photography. You will need to bring your own camera and have knowledge of the various settings on it prior to the class. Class will take place at the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service in Thomson, Illinois. There will be time allotted to take photos on the Upper Mississippi River Refuge. Transportation is provided from Clinton Community College to the site. Students must be aged 9 and older. This class is held on Thursday, June 12 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. The fee is $15. Register for class #48294.

WANTED: FISH BIOLOGIST! - Hey, kids! Have you ever thought about becoming a Fish Biologist? Come experience for yourself some of the things fish biologists do as they learn about the critters that call the Mississippi River home. Participants will travel the backwaters and see firsthand many species of turtle and fish such as largemouth bass, rock bass, sunfish, gar, sturgeon and possibly a paddlefish. Students must be aged 9-12 to participate. Life vests are provided. This class is co-sponsored with the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service. This class is held on Friday, June 13 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. The fee is $15. Register for class #48296.

USING GPS TO CONNECT WITH NATURE - Wayfinding has come a long way since the day when we used a compass. Even though compasses are still being used today, new technology such as GPS (Global Positioning System) is providing the wanderer a new method. Participants will learn how to use the Garmin eTrex unit and complete a scavenger hunt to practice new skills. Transportation from Clinton Community College to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service office in Thomson, Illinois, is provided. Students must be aged 9 and over to participate. This class is held on Monday, June 16 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. The fee is $15. Register for class #48295.

CANOEING ON THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER - Students in this Mississippi River exploration class will learn the basics of canoeing while enjoying some of the most beautiful scenery on the Upper Mississippi. Life vests and canoes are provided. Meet at the CCC auditorium. Van transportation is provided. This class is held on Tuesday, June 17 from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. Participants will meet in the CCC Auditorium, 1000 Lincoln Blvd., Clinton. The fee is $15. Register for class #48297.
