Morrison School District Kindergarten Screenings

The Morrison School District is sponsoring a developmental screening for those four and five-year-old children who will be eligible to attend kindergarten during the 2008-09 school year.

Community screenings will be held on Thursday, March 13th from 11:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at Northside Elementary School in Morrison.

As a part of the screening process, the screening team will be using the Brigance Screening Assessment. The Brigance is a screening inventory that helps kindergarten teachers assess readiness for school and developmental progress, as well as developmental strengths and weaknesses. Areas addressed include: fine and gross motor skills; receptive and expressive language; academic cognitive development; daily living skills; social-emotional skills; and overall adaptive behavior.

All families will receive a complete packet of registration materials for the 2008-09 school year, as well as a list of additional required documentation, including, but not limited to immunization records, physicals, and birth certificates.

Children who attend Morrison Early Learning Program, Morrison Pre-School, Morrison Day Care, or Headstart will be screened at these locations at a different time. An additional screening appointment is not necessary.

Screenings are free of charge, but parents are asked to call and schedule an appointment for their child prior to the screening dates by telephoning Northside Elementary School at (815) 772-2153.

A follow-up kindergarten meeting for parents of all kindergarten age students will take place on Thursday, April 3, 2008, at 6:30 p.m. in the Northside Elementary School cafeteria.

For further information on kindergarten screenings, please contact Anji Garza, Morrison Elementary Programs & Service Coordinator at (815) 772-2153.
