3rd Graders Conclude Successful Words for Wisdom Celebration

Gratitude (noun): the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful

Seventy-five third grade students at Southside Elementary School in Morrison celebrated the meaning of the word gratitude at a special assembly on Wednesday, January 9, 2008, as they received a special gift of knowledge from the leaders in the Morrison Community.

The morning began with a special welcome and introduction by Morrison Superintendent and Rotary Club member Dr. Jody Ware, who iterated the importance of learning and education, as well as the community’s support of each child’s educational experience. Later, Morrison Rotary President Stephanie Deckro and Pastor Jeff McIlrath presented each third grade student with a personalized copy of “Webster’s Dictionary for Students,” on behalf of the Morrison Rotary Club.

“These dictionaries are now the personal property of each third grade child to keep and utilize throughout the duration of their education careers in Morrison and beyond,” commented Anji Garza, Coordinator of Elementary Programs and Services. “We are grateful to the Morrison Rotary Club for their generous investment in the future of our community.”

The dictionary distribution and presentation kicked-off a month-long, all school celebration entitled “Words for Wisdom,” which featured a variety of fun facts, contests, and other activities designed to stimulate students’ vocabulary and dictionary usage. The celebration concludes on Friday, February 1st, 2008.
