Morrison Students Attend Band Festival

Ten Morrison High School students participated in the Augustana Honor Band Festival on Sunday and Monday January 20 and 21 on the Rock Island campus of Augustana College. The festival culminated with a concert by the Augustana College Symphonic Band and the two high school festival bands at 6:30 p.m. in Centennial Hall, Augustana College.

The two bands composed of students from 40 high schools from 4 different states rehearsed under the direction of Mr. Jay Gephardtl, director of bands at the Purdue University and Dr. James Lambrecht, director of bands at Augustana College. The Blue Band is composed entirely of seniors and some juniors while the Gold band is made up of senior, junior and some underclassmen. The Blue Band worked exclusively with Mr. Gephardt while the Gold Band worked with both Dr. Lambrecht and Mr. Gephardt.

Morrison students selected for the Gold Band were Jacklyn Hanson, flute; Samantha Mapes and Derek Meinsma, french horn; Elliott Riggen, trombone; and Ashley Vegter, tuba. Students selected from Morrison for the Blue Band were Ashley Hook, flute; Steven Karvelius, oboe; Matthew Martin, clarinet; Alyssa Barnett, trumpet; and Raechel Stone, trombone. The students are taught by Mr. David Bean, MHS band director.
