Ebenezer Combines Services for Fall Kick-Off |
|
Do you have a church home? If you don’t, the Ebenezer Reformed Church would like to invite you to their outdoor service, which will be held Sunday, September 2 at the Whiteside County Fair Grounds. Every Sunday the Ebenezer Church holds two services in the morning. The first service, which begins at 9 a.m., is the more traditional church service. The second service, which begins at 11:15, is a contempory service entitled Emmaus. The September 2 service held at the fairgrounds is going to be a combination of both services. There will be hymns, scripture, lessons and contempory praise led by the Praise Team of the church. According to Jon Nienhuis, pastor of the church, ”We wanted to do something new and exciting this year for our fall kick-off of the Sunday School and Youth Groups. We looked back at what we had done in the past that was exciting and combined it all together. This combined service will provide people with a feeling for each service that we offer. We wanted to make it fun for everyone.” The service begins at 10 a.m. in the amphitheater. Nursery and a First Aid facility will be provided in the secretary’s office. There will be reserved and valet parking for those who need this service. Bring your lawn chair or sit in the grandstands. A picnic lunch will follow the service. Pork chops, hot dogs, chips, beverage and dessert will be provided at no cost. Popcorn and sno-cones will also be available. Following lunch, let the games begin for all ages! Bingo, face painting, beanbag toss, and an inflatable sports arena are just a few of the activities planned. Try to dunk Pastor Jon in the dunk tank, if you dare. The fall session of the Ebenezer Sunday School will begin on September 9. The Sunday School goal for this year is to make the hour one of the most exciting hours of a child’s week. New curriculum has been prepared for this year. The Sunday School is open to ages three-years-old through 12th grade. Youth Groups will begin on Wednesdays starting September 5. This is open to children from kindergarten through 12th grade. The theme of Wednesday night’s youth groups is RO4C “Reaching Out 4 Christ.” Drama Practice, for those who would like to participate in acting out a lesson, will practice at 4:30. Dinner downstairs in the Fellowship Hall begins at 5:30 p.m. At 6:10 the P&D (Praise & Devotion) is held in the Sanctuary. Ebenezer now has a Youth Praise Band, which performs during this time. By 6:40 small group sessions will be divided by grade, and by 7:30 p.m. it is time to head home. “We are trying to make Wednesday nights more a family night this year,” stated Nienhuis. “They can come as a family to eat, and when the groups are divided we would like to have a time for an adult discussion.” Invite your friends and neighbors of all ages and join the church for a great time of worship, fellowship, great food and fun. by Dawn Zuidema, theCity1.com |
