Senior Center April Activities

Mondays at the Senior Center
AARP Tax Aids will be at the Whiteside County Senior Center every Monday during income tax season from now until April 9th. Free Tax help is available for taxpayers with low- and middle income, with special attention to those age 60 and older from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

Fridays at the Senior Center
Mexican Train Dominoes Fridays at the Whiteside County Senior Center. If you don’t know how to play, we will teach you. We will be playing each Friday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. Your $5 donation will include dessert or snacks, beverage and door prize. Prizes for play are $30 for 1st, $20 for 2nd, and $10 for 3rd place. If you like, you can come for lunch at 11:30 a.m. for a $3 donation. If you are in need of transportation please call the senior center at 815-625-7433. Hope to see you there!!

Wednesdays at the Odell Library
AARP Tax Aids will be at the Morrison Odell Library every Wednesday during income tax season starting February 7th to April 11th. Free Tax help is available for taxpayers with low- and middle income, with special attention to those age 60 and older from 1-4 p.m.

Whiteside County Senior Center Outreach workers will also be available at the library to file your 2006 IL Cares/ Circuit Breaker Application. Please bring last year's income, property tax/rent information and asset balances. If you have any questions please contact Karen at 815-213-1025.

Thursday at the YWCA
AARP Tax Aids will be at the YWCA every Thursday during income tax season starting February 8th to April 12th. Free Tax help is available for taxpayers with low- and middle income, with special attention to those age 60 and older from 12 p.m. - 4 p.m.

1st & 3rd Tuesday Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Support Group meet from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. at the Senior Center. If you are raising your grandchild and need some one to talk to with a situation like yours this is the place to be. Grandchildren are welcome. Dinner will be provided.

April 3rd
Riverside Golf and Casino - leave Kmart at 8:30 a.m. Cost is $25 and includes transportation, $10 players card and $5 meal ($9.95 value). Reservation due ASAP.

April 4th and 11th
Whiteside County Senior Center will be at the Rock Falls Community Building from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to sign people up for Illinois Cares Rx/ Circuit Breaker. Please bring with you: proof of income for last year, property taxes/rent information and your asset balance.

April 6th & 13th
Whiteside County Senior Center will be at the Civic Plaza 2 (by appointment only) from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. to sign people up for Illinois Cares Rx/ Circuit Breaker. Please bring with you: proof of income for last year, property taxes/rent information and you asset balance.

April 4th & 11th
Heartland Home Nursing will be at the Whiteside County Senior Center for Blood Pressure checks before lunch.

April 14th
Sauk Valley Computer User Group meets from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the senior center to discuss individual computer problems from 1-2 p.m.. Business Meeting at 2 p.m. until 2:30 from 2:30 on we have scheduled presentations on various computer programs. Refreshments will be served also.

April 17th & 18th
Join us for an Overnight stay at Meskwaki Bingo and Casino in Tama, Iowa. Cost is $80 based on double occupancy. Price includes a beautiful room with double beds, $3 coupon for delicious meals each day, Pay $20 in cash a day and receive $40 in coins each day, and your hotel has swimming accommodations! Bus will leave Kmart at 8:30 a.m. Sunday.

April 18th
Coventry Nursing Home will be at the Whiteside County Senior Center for Blood Pressure checks before lunch

April 25th
Sterling Pavillion will be at the Whiteside County Senior Center before lunch for blood pressure checks.

April 26th
Mercy Nursing Services will be at the Whiteside County Senior Center for a presentation on “Private Duty Services” that may be available to you or your loved one. This presentation will be starting at 11am in the dining room.

April 27th Dinner and a Free Movie – Enjoy a night with family and friends. “On the menu will be chicken noodle dinner, vegetable, roll, dessert and drink. Venture out to the Whiteside County Senior Center for a night of food, family and fun all for a suggested donation of $5.00. Popcorn is free!! Pop is extra. We will eat at 5:00 and movie will start rolling on our big screen TV at 6:00.

April 12th & 13th
AARP Drivers Safety Program — 9:15 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. - This eight hour course is taught in two four hour days and the cost in only $10! Course helps drivers refine existing skills and develop safe, defensive driving techniques. AARP members & non-members alike may take the course. There are no tests, and may offer a discount on your auto insurance.

May 9th
Dubuque Race Track and Casino- Cost is $25 and includes transportation, $5 slot play, one free roulette game, one free racing program. Contact WCSC activity department at 815-622-9230 for more details.

June 5
Diamond Jo Casino – Price is $25 per person. Price includes transportation & Free Buffet. Bus leaves at 8:30 a.m. Contact Betty at the Whiteside County Senior Center to Reserve ASAP!

August 19-25
The Whiteside County Senior Center is going to Dollywood!! From August 19th to 25th 2007 the WCSC will be sponsoring a trip to the Smoky Mountains. The trip includes seven days and six nights lodging with four consecutive nights in the Smokies, six breakfasts and four dinners, and a guided tour of the Smoky Mountains. Please Call 815-622-9230 for more information. All trips and activities from Whiteside County Senior Center are open to the public.
