F-S Fillies End the Season on a Good Note |
On May 10 the Fresh-Soph Fillies hosted Bureau Valley (BV) on their home field. Jordan Mann pitched and held BV scoreless in the top of the first. The Fillies led off with Kyla Renkes bunting on. Megan Nelson singled and Heather Andersen singled in Renkes. Callie Bush reached on a fielder’s choice. Kate Durham singled in Andersen and Andrea Vegter singled in Bush.
The Filly defense gave up a run in the top of the second but answered back with three more runs of their own. Becca Head led off with a double and stole third. Megan Nelson knocked in Head. Heather Andersen reached on a dropped third strike. Mann singled, Bush singled, Durham knocked in Andersen and Mann with a two run double. The score now, 6-1. In the top of the fourth BV scored 4 runs and was answered back by one by the Fillies. Mann singled, Abby Weisel courtesy ran for Mann. Bush singled, Durham walked to load the bases. Vegter singled in Weisel to make the score 7-5. The Filly defense once again held strong in the top of the fifth and went on to score four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Head reached on an infield single, Renkes bunted on, and Nelson singled to load the bases. Andersen singled in Head, Renkes and Nelson stole home, and Bush sacrificed in Andersen. Making the score 11-5. BV score three more runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 11-8. Mann pitched a courageous game after being stung by a bee in the second inning. She added 4 k’s to her total. The Fillies finished 18-5 for the year and gained a lot of experience both defensively and offensively. They won the conference with a conference record of 9-1. Also never mentioned in any of these articles is Coach Tiffany Bruckner, who has been coaching these girls for a long time.
