Fillies Win season opener

The Fillies opened their season against Newman with a decisive win. Abby Vock started the game by reaching on a error. Monica Wright and Katie Tenboer had hits that loaded the bases. With two out and bases loaded Britney Smith wasted no opportunity and had a fly to the gap in left center for her first double and three of her five RBI’s for the night. Cassie Hanson stepped up next and did the same thing, scoring Smith. Amanda Wiersema hit a grounder between short and third scoring a hustling Hanson

Monica Wright took the mound for the Fillies and with Jodi Medendorp behind the plate, pitched her first no-hitter of the season by recording ten K’s. Solid defense at the corners with Tenboer at third and Ashley Patten at first. Tenboer scooped up a bunt almost flawlessly in the first. In the second Patten fielded a grounder unassisted and Medendorp handled the pop up behind the plate. The third and the fifth had a pop up to Tenboer with the rest of the outs going to Wight.

The Fillies batted nine more in the second with Smith coming up with a two RBI triple. In the third M. Vock had a triple. The fourth was a long inning for Newman when Morrison batted fifteen batters. Jen Bush had the big hit of the inning with a triple down the first base line scoring three. Newman had four errors in the inning giving up nine runs.

Coach Deter was “ real happy with the girl’s bats and making good contact” in the Fillies first win.

Abby Vock had three hits, two stolen bases and reached base all five times at bat. Monica Wright had three hits, one SAC, pitched five innings striking out ten. Micheale Vock had two hits with one triple, and two RBI’s. Katie Tenboer had two hits. Jodi Medendorp had one hit and one stolen base. Britney Smith had a double , a triple, five RBI’s and one stolen base. Jen Bush had a triple. Cassie Hanson had two hits, one triple and two RBI’s. Amanda Wiersema had one hit and one RBI. Heather Andersen had one hit.
