Marine Staff Sergeant Cain visits Morrison High School |
|
Marine Staff Sergeant Jeremy Cain was in Morrison on Monday April 11, 2005 answering questions and handing out Marine Corps information to interested students.
Afterwards, Sergeant Cain stopped by thecity1.com office for an interview and to discuss possible Marine Corps participation in the upcoming July 8,9, 10 Sesquicentennial events. Although overall enlistments are trending downward nationally, the Marine Corps is not changing their recruiting standards according to Sergeant Cain. The Corps receives enlistees and assigns them to either San Diego, California or Paris Island, South Carolina where the recruits have 13 weeks of training. The Marine Corps is an equal opportunity employer and both men and women are recruited. We asked him why the Corps? Cain responded that it offers a great career, good pay, you get a large dose of self accomplishment while enjoying a team spirit. The self discipline and leadership training can prove to be a big asset when an individual completes their commitment and they choose to move back into the private sector or stay in the Corps. Sergeant Cain says he enjoys being a recruiter and meeting with young people still trying to decide what they want to do. "I don't like pressure tactics and if someone is thinking about another branch of the armed services that's still okay with me".He also enjoys meeting with veterans and hearing their stories and units they served with. Sergeant Cain has served in the Marine Corps for over 13 years and has been stationed in Camp Pendleton, CA, Cherry Point, NC, Okinawa, Japan and Norway in joint training exercises with the British Royal Marines.Sergeant Cain will be also trying to bring some Marine presence to the Morrison Sesquicentennial and we may hear more later from him. Sergeant Cain is stationed at the United States marine Corps recruiting sub station at 1822 S.West Ave, Unit 26 #304 ,Freeport, IL 61032.
