Where were you?

Alan Jackson’s song “Where Were You?”, corresponds to the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the United States. The first verse says, "Where were you when the world stopped turning on that September day?”

Mike Garland and Pete Swearingen know where they were. They were replacing the fire hydrant at the corner of Genesee St and Main St. on that morning.

Mike stated, “Every time I went by that hydrant I would think that we should do something special with it to signify the Sept. 11 attack.”

The Sesquicentennial Committee has chosen as one of their projects to celebrate Morrison’s 150th birthday next year, to paint the downtown fire hydrants with the Sesquicentennial theme.

Mike told their story to Jennifer Parker who is doing the painting of the hydrants and she painted the hydrant special with the September 11 date on it.

According to Mike, “ It worked out perfect for the significance of that hydrant. Jennifer did a great job.”
