Is your life feeling as if it is closing in around you with schedules, meetings, other commitments--too many to keep or even do well?  Are you frustrated/concerned over the situation of the City finances and/or those of the National government?  Is the noise of TV, computers, cell phones, beepers, etc. driving you crazy?  If you answered Yes to any of these, Sunday evening, August 1, 2010, at Ebenezer Reformed Church is where you should be.  Why?  At 6:00 p.m. ERC will host an ecumenical service of prayer in the style of Taize.

The Taize worshiping community was founded in Taize, France, in the 1940's with ecumenical prayer services to pray for world peace.  Taize worship is quiet, meditative, and personally reflective, trusting in the Holy Spirit to minister to each person's needs.  The worshipers are encouraged to focus on the words of the pieces, which are all based on the scriptures. This service attempts to calm the noisy, chaotic world in which we live, by helping us to quiet ourselves enough, to hear what God speaks through the Holy Spirit.  People are encouraged to participate as they desire in a reverent, quiet, and worshipful way.

This service of sung prayer will be led by a small group of area musicians, using what is known as "world music," as well as music from the Taize and Iona Christian Communities.  Prayer will be for our community and those things in our community that will be happening in the future:

  • the schools, teachers, and students
  • new economic opportunities
  • the possible opening of the Thomson facility
  • new folks moving into town
  • other needs Morrison and Whiteside County may face
  • all the churches, as plans are made for fall activities.

You are invited to please join Ebenezer Sunday, August 1, at 6:00 p.m., for this hour of reflective prayer at 309 E. Park Street, Morrison, IL, where our hearts and doors are always open to you.
